e-Rated's April Top Picks Playlist

Updated: Jun 11, 2021

This is a personally curated playlist that features my favourite tracks out of all the jams that dropped in that month.

APRIL'S TOP PICKS

April came through with a lot of fire drops. The last two weeks in April showed out in terms of releases.

We finally got the most anticipated album drop of the year so far, Sex > Love by Blaqbonez. As an advocate of the 'polygamous circle' and an avid supporter of aggressively dating without commitments, Emeka The Stallion uses this album to further convince and not confuse us that sex is indeed greater than love. I've loved Blaqbonez since the first day I heard Mamiwota on his Bad Boy Blaq EP in 2018. Since then, he has been in his hip-hop/rap bag with the release of two follow up studio projects - Bad Boy Blaq Re-Up & Mr. Boombastic.

Sex > Love is an all-round album that caters to different music tastes. Some of my faves in the album are Never Been In Love, Don't Touch, Okwaraji, Fendi & Bling (duh!)

Aw, see my mood🤧 :

Peruzzi finally came through with his long-awaited sophomore album, Rum & Boogie! Since the release of Southy Love which did a madness on charts last December and into the new year, the highly controversial artiste saw how far his meddling into the amapiano wave got him. That successful run gave him the creative vim to push this album live sooner than later. The two-part album came after the release of the 4th single off the album Somebody Baby which topped charts yet again for a few weeks. Rum & Boogie explores different genres but the two main categories are afrobeat and amapiano/house respectively.

The Rum part of the album (Disk 1) explores a more emotional and relationship-driven Peruzzi that wants to prove his love through heartfelt yet rythymic songs. The Boogie part of the album (Disk 2) reveals a more playful and fun-loving Peruzzi that just wants to vibe through more up-tempo songs.

A really interesting album overall, but I personally prefer Rum over Boogie. Some of my faves in the album include See Love, Murda, God Forbid, Matrimony, and Isolova.

I've been anticipating new music from my G.O.A.T producer, Sarz since March but some business had to be handled behind the scenes regarding the release and roll-out of Tonongo but we finally got 'emmm! Lojay teams up with Sarz to bless us with this strip club-inspired hit and we can look forward to a joint EP coming through in June!

Honourable Mentions

Some other songs that dropped in April I've been enjoying, you might vibe with them too!

1. Ajebutter22's King Of Parole

Ajebutter is back!! One thing we can bank on with Ajebutter's songs are straight vibes and he brings that to the table on this one.

How You Know I Dey For Streets? If you See Me For The Streets, That Means You Self Dey For Streets

2. Cheque & Fireboy DML, History

The bromance between these two was super cute on this song. Cheque and Fireboy tell an inspirational and motivational story geared towards achieving victory that everyone can (hopefully) identify with.

3. Tomi Thomas' Again

The energy-driven Tomi Thomas has been feeding his fans with quality music since last year. Following up from his last two singles, he's back 'again' (pun intended) with another summer bop.

4. Femi Leye & Reinhard Tega, EKO ILE

The production on this song is nothing short of amazing and it made me curious to find out who these creators are. Femi Leye is a music producer, guitarist, and artiste who teams up with Reinhard Tega, also an artiste and producer to bless us with Eko Ile. Both producers put their all into creating magic through instruments like guitars, drums, and percussions with few melodious runs throughout the track to paint an image of Lagos through their sound.

5. Jupita featuring RVGE, JEYOVA

Jupita, an afro-eclectic music producer with the tag "uptown daddy" joins forces with producer, artiste and songwriter, RVGE (Rage) on this amapiano/electric infused track about how much the woman's backside makes them want to shoutout to the Lord.

You can listen to the playlists on Apple Music and Spotify. Add the playlist as well to stay plugged to new songs when the playlist switches up with jams that drop in May!
